Italy appears to be on everyone’s travel destination calendar these days. What is not to love about the historical architecture, the sense of design, or the live-and-let-live life mantra of the Italians? How about the cuisine—utilizing what is in season and presenting it simply dressed on the plate to create some of the tastiest food on the planet? Rome may be my favorite city, but Tuscany garners an abundance of attention—starting with the art, education and structural design of its capital Florence . . . to the endless vineyards and wineries in the countryside.
Tuscany borders the regions of Liguria to the northwest, Emilia-Romagna to the north and east, Umbria to the east, and Lazio to the southeast—comprising an area of 23,000 kilometers and a population of about 3.8 million inhabitants.
Known for it landscapes, traditions and history, Tuscany is regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. As a result, the region boasts many great museums that house the notable works of arts and sciences, such as: Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Galileo, Danté, Boccaccio, Modigliani, and Puccini. Tuscany has six locales that have been designated World Heritage Sites and over 120 protected nature reserves. Florence receives over 10 million tourists each year, making it one of the most visited cities in the world.
With all that Tuscany has to offer, where does one start to plan a travel itinerary?
